An Illustrated Odyssey into an Ancient World with Asia Orlando

Step into the enthralling world where myth and imagination collide in Asia Orlando’s recent illustration project “Beasts of the Ancient World”. Asia partnered with DK Penguin Random House to bring her illustrative talent to this ancient world depiction.

Each page is a vibrant fusion of text and Asia’s enchanting illustrations, creating a dynamic visual narrative where no two pages are alike. Every story and character is given a unique and captivating depiction that brings the ancient world to life.

To gather further inspiration for this project, Asia embarked on a journey to visit the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, and The British Museum in London. These visits allowed her to witness the artifacts and characters firsthand, gaining a better grasp of the story she was telling through her art. She used this newfound knowledge to skillfully intertwine relevant story details she learned into her illustrations, decorating the wonderful pages with ornamental details.

Asia’s favorite part of this project was “the amazing creative mix between fiction and non-fiction. In some cases, museum artifacts served as a reference and an anchor point, and in others, I had complete creative freedom when coming up with how the beasts and characters should look.”

This creative freedom allowed for her to truly create something magical, and bring forth vibrant, captivating visuals for all readers.
