Unveiling the Artistic Journey Within Michael Eugene’s Mural

Michael Eugene is great at making people feel something, which is why he's often working on incredible murals to draw people into the spaces where they reside. One of his latest is this gorgeous, hand painted mural for Supino Pizzeria!

This mural, located inside of Supino Pizzeria in Detroit Michigan, is a testament to the enduring relationship that can be cultivated between an artist and a client. We sat down with Michael to hear how a decade-long friendship turned into a beautiful mural inside of Supino.

"Supino was one of my first clients out of college when I accidentally designed their logo in 2011 after the owner asked if I could design him a t-shirt. We've been friends ever since," says Michael.

They have since forged a strong bond, collaborating on various projects over the past decade. This mural project marks a milestone in their creative journey together.

Infused with colors complementing the restaurant's interior, the mural draws inspiration from travel sketchbooks and colored pencil plein-air landscapes. Extensive research on the Italian comune's topography and plant life from Michael adds authenticity and an Italian feel to the mural.

Michael pushed artistic boundaries, embracing loose brushwork throughout the mural. The intentional use of unfinished areas adds intrigue and texture to the wall, and to the artwork as a whole.

When asked how he felt about the finished mural, Michael had this to say: "I found great joy hearing one of the bartenders tell me that they like to stare at the mural because it makes them feel calm."

Michael also included "some personal easter-eggs from our long-standing relationship, and a nod to a recently departed friend" within the mural. So great to hear how this beautiful mural came to life!
